As part of our commitment to supporting Rotary International’s global fight against polio, the Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central established a polio awareness campaign last year to educate our community about the importance of polio prevention and eradication.
Polio is a highly contagious viral disease that mainly affects children under five years old and can cause lifelong paralysis. Through our campaign, we highlighted the dangers of the virus, the importance of vaccination, and the continued efforts being made worldwide to eradicate polio.
Rotary International has played a significant role in the global fight against polio. In 1985, Rotary launched PolioPlus, its first global effort to immunize children against polio, which contributed to the establishment of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative in 1988. Through our campaign, the Rotaract Club of Georgetown Central sought to strengthen the End Polio Now message and encourage greater awareness and support for this important cause. Our members have
contributed and continue to contribute to Rotary’s efforts to end polio.
We also highlighted opportunities for individuals to support the cause through the Rotary Foundation, including making donations and learning more about how they can contribute to the global effort As we recognize World Polio Day on October 24, our club continues to reflect on the importance of awareness, education, and collective action in creating a polio-free world.
