To address period poverty and promote student well-being, the Rotaract Club of Kingstown launched our "Healthy Cycles" initiative. In partnership with EZ Essentials, we provided essential sanitary supplies and menstrual health education to students at Emmanuel High School and St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua (SJCM). This pilot project highlights our commitment to menstrual health advocacy and serves as the foundation for a scalable, sustainable program reaching more schools across the district.
Who: The Collaborators
This initiative was led by the Rotaract Club of Kingstown in exclusive collaboration with EZ Essentials. Key figures included Immediate Past District Rotaract Representative (IPDRR) Crystal Mohammed, who played a vital role in the project’s execution. The beneficiaries of this pilot phase were students at Emmanuel High School and St Joseph's Convent Marriaqua (SJCM).
What: The "Healthy Cycles" Pilot
"Healthy Cycles" served as a foundational one-off donation and educational initiative. The project was delivered in two distinct parts to ensure comprehensive coverage:
Part 1: Focused delivery and educational engagement at Emmanuel High School was conducted with IPDRR Crystal Mohammed, which also included the signature educational talk and sanitary product donation.
Part 2: Another focused delivery and educational engagement at the St Joseph's Convent Marriaqua
Why: Purpose & Significance
The primary goal was to provide immediate support through sanitary product donations while beginning to destigmatize menstrual health. By pairing the donations with educational sessions, the project addressed both the physical need for supplies and the psychological need for awareness, confidence, and mental wellness among students. This pilot serves as the proof-of-concept for a larger, more sustainable impact.
How: Execution & Scaling Strategy
The execution of this pilot involved managing logistics across two separate days to ensure each school received the full benefit of both the supplies and the educational curriculum.
Operational Success: By splitting the project into two parts, the team successfully navigated scheduling challenges, ensuring that every student involved received the necessary educational talk followed by the donation handover.
The Path Forward (Scaling Strategy): To transition from this one-off pilot to a recurring, high-impact program, the strategy involves:
1. Diversifying Partnerships: Actively seeking collaboration with a broader network of distributors to increase supply volume.
2. Increasing Frequency: Moving away from one-off donations toward a consistent, cyclical schedule.
3. Expanding Reach: Targeting a larger roster of schools across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to maximize the project's footprint.
This pilot was more than just a donation; it was a conversation starter. As we look ahead, the Rotaract Club of Kingstown is dedicated to scaling "Healthy Cycles," actively seeking new partnerships to transform this initiative into a sustainable, recurring support system for schools across Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
