Wednesday 22nd February 2017 was a very special afternoon for the Rotary Club of Princes Town. The Club hosted its third joint meeting for the Rotary year, partnering with the Rotary Clubs of San Fernando and St. Augustine for an afternoon of Rotary fellowship where the Clubs celebrated the induction of new members and benefited from the educational and informative feature address delivered by Independent Senator Taurel Shrikissoon.

At the start of the afternoon RC Princes Town President Debbie Roopchand welcomed all present and gave a brief presentation of the Club’s involvement with the Cerebral Palsy Society of Trinidad and Tobago and it’s ongoing dental screening of the Society’s members.

She was followed by Presidents Gary Williams of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine and Robert Qui of the Rotary Club of San Fernando who both expressed their delight in being part of the meeting and shared updates from their respective clubs. Assistant Governor Michael Kangaloo brought greetings on behalf of District 7030.

At the join meeting the Rotary Club of Princes Town inducted two new members, Delicia Maharaj and Selvon Ramroop with the classifications of Retail Pharmaceuticals and Software & Technology Engineering respectively into its fold and the official pinning of Rotarian Keshma who was earlier admitted to the membership of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine took place.

Feature speaker for the afternoon Independent Senator Taurel Shrikissoon delivered a powerful address during which he shared his perspective on the present financial status of the local economy, demonstrating through the use of factual data the extent to which Trinidad and Tobago is in debt, and identified to his captive audience ways in which private enterprises could manage the current economic downturn to their advantage. The Senator’s presentation was dynamic, educational and informative and he engaged the audience through a short question and answer session at the end of his presentation.

The afternoon featured live performances by Kyle Ali on the steel pan and traditional East Indian dancing by Selena Ali, both of whom delivered excellent performances, which were immensely enjoyed by all present. Rotarian Terrance Gopaul moved a vote of thanks on behalf of the Rotary Club of Princes Town and the meeting came to a close around 9:00 p.m. with members staying back to engage in fellowship thereafter.
