On 7th October 2002 the Rotary Club of Penal was charted. On 8th October 2022 a gala function was held at Doc’s Ranch in Philippine, San Fernando to celebrate this milestone. The celebration started off with an Interfaith service on 5th October 2022 where various religious leaders came together to give thanks and praise to almighty God for the opportunities given to us to serve our communities.
In commemoration of this day also the Club embarked on a tree planting exercise with the kind assistance of the students from both the Dayanand Memorial Vedic School and the Avocat Vedic School on their school compounds.
Twenty years have been a long time for us, much has happened. The Club was chartered with twenty five (25) members, history was made, it was the only Club in the organization to have all its members installed with a Paul Harris Fellow (PHF).Since then much has happened, some has moved on, some has passed on, some have gone and some have come, however each contributing to the tremendous and impactful work we have done as a Club.
To date we are thankful to have with us our Charter President Rotarian Surujdeo Mangaroo, Rotarians Dr. Akenath Misir, Clint Arjoon and Diana Antoine all of whom are very active and instrumental to the success of the Club and mentors to the new ones.
Throughout the years we have had some very impactful projects and continue to have some of which we are happy to share.
- The Jaipur limb- prosthetic legs -funded by the Dewan Foundation
- A Shelter home for families displaced by fire and natural disasters.
- Volunteers Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH) free eye testing and glasses done by a team of doctors from the US who spent over one week testing at various venues, school children and members of the public at a cost of over One Million TT dollars.
- Donated Ten Thousand US dollars (US $ 10,000.) to the Children’s life fund.
- Built a music centre for the students at the Penal Rock RC school at a cost of over Sixty-Five Thousand dollars ($ 65000).
- Donated a solar panel to a student whose home had no electricity at a cost of Fifteen Thousand dollars ($15000.).
- Donated a motorized wheelchair to a cerebral palsy child at a cost of Nine Thousand Five hundred dollars ($9500.)
- Donated a hospital bed to a needy family member at a cost of Seven Thousand dollars ($ 7000).
To date we have fulfilled the Rotary mandate in many ways. The Rotary Club of Penal has certainly done substantial services to our local and global communities as being guided by Rotary’s seven areas of focus - promoting peace, providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene, fighting diseases, growing local economies, supporting education, protecting the environment and saving mothers and children.

Le 7 octobre 2002, le Rotary Club de Penal a été créé. Le 8 octobre 2022, un gala a été organisé au Doc's Ranch à Philippine, San Fernando, pour célébrer cette étape importante. La célébration a commencé par un service interreligieux le 5 octobre 2022, au cours duquel divers chefs religieux se sont réunis pour remercier et louer le Dieu tout-puissant pour les occasions qu'il nous a données de servir nos communautés.
En commémoration de cette journée, le Club s'est également lancé dans un projet de mise en terre d'arbres avec l'aimable assistance des élèves du Dayanand Memorial Vedic School et de l'Avocat Vedic School dans l'enceinte de leurs écoles.
Vingt ans ont été une longue période pour nous, beaucoup de choses se sont passées. Le Club a été créé avec vingt-cinq (25) membres, et est entré dans l’histoire en devenant le seul Club dans l'organisation à voir tous ses membres fondateurs avoir un Paul Harris Fellow (PHF). Depuis lors, beaucoup de choses se sont passées, certains ont déménagé, d'autres sont décédés, d'autres sont partis et d'autres encore sont arrivés, mais chacun a contribué à l'énorme travail et à l'impact que nous avons eu en tant que Club.
A ce jour, nous sommes reconnaissants d'avoir parmi nous notre Président Fondateur, le Rotarien Surujdeo Mangaroo, les Rotariens Dr. Akenath Misir, Clint Arjoon et Diana Antoine, qui sont tous très actifs et contribuent au succès du Club et sont des mentors pour les nouveaux.
Au fil des ans, nous avons réalisé des projets très importants et nous continuons à en réaliser certains que nous sommes heureux de partager.

- Un Foyer d'accueil pour les familles déplacées à la suite d'incendies ou de catastrophes naturelles.
- Volunteers Optometric Service to Humanity (VOSH) : une équipe de médecins américains a effectué des examens gratuits de la vue et des dons de lunettes pendant plus d'une semaine dans divers lieux, auprès d'écoliers et de membres du public, pour un coût de plus d'un million de dollars TT.
- Don de dix mille dollars américains (10 000 $US) au fonds pour la vie des enfants.
- Construction d'un centre musical pour les élèves de l'école Penal Rock RC pour un coût de plus de soixante-cinq mille dollars (65 000 $).
- Don d'un panneau solaire à un étudiant dont la maison n'avait pas d'électricité, pour un coût de quinze mille dollars (15 000 $).
- Don d'un fauteuil roulant motorisé à un enfant atteint de paralysie cérébrale pour un montant de neuf mille cinq cents dollars (9 500 $).
- Donation d'un lit d'hôpital à un membre de la famille dans le besoin pour un montant de sept mille dollars (7 000 $).
À ce jour, nous avons rempli le mandat du Rotary de nombreuses manières. Le Rotary Club de Penal a certainement rendu des services substantiels à nos communautés locales et mondiales en s'inspirant des sept axes stratégiques du Rotary : promouvoir la paix, fournir de l'eau potable, des installations sanitaires et de l'hygiène, lutter contre les maladies, développer les économies locales, soutenir l'éducation, protéger l'environnement et sauver les mères et les enfants.
