St. John’s Antigua, May 2, 2017 – The students and teachers of the Cobbs Cross Primary School recently benefited from a donation of fifteen (15) computers, secured by Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown, and valued at over $16,000. It marks largest donation ever of technology equipment to Cobbs Cross Primary School.

This was made possible through collaboration between the Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown (RCAS) and The Caribbean Event, a non-profit group whose main function is to give back to the community both in Canada and the Caribbean.

“We’re grateful for the support of The Caribbean Event who played a large role in making this donation possible,” said Herald Rolland, RCAS President.

“What we’ve done today is combine the strength of Rotary’s network with our resources, and together with our partners, The Caribbean Event and Antigua Computer Technology (ACT), who provided all the power supply strips, we’ve been able to make a big difference in the learning landscape at the school and truly make a long-term investment in the lives of many.”

Last year for the first time The Caribbean Event embarked upon a program of providing refurbished computers to Caribbean countries mainly through the setting up of computer labs in schools with emphasis on rural schools. This program is intended to reach as many financially challenged children as possible who do not have access to computer facilities.

“We want to thank the Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown for selecting our school,” said Carol Lashley, School Principal.

“We now have fully equipped computer systems which will be used to enhance learning throughout the entire school. We’re thankful for everyone who played a role in making this donation possible.”

Addressing the student body at the official handover, Desiree Antonio, Education Officer for the zone said; “Systems like these are expensive; they are not easy to come by – And for the Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown to invest in this school – 15 computers – they must think a lot about you and your educational development.”

All fifteen (15) computers are equipped with Microsoft Operating Systems and Microsoft Office.
