Rotary Club of Antigua Sundown together with the Rotary Club of Bethlehem Morning Star in Bethlehem Pennsylvania, were able to get a Reading Specialist Dr Matz to visit and make preliminary assessments on three primary schools in Antigua.
Dr. Matz identified that there were weaknesses in phoneme development and would be willing to train the Reading and Kindergarten Teachers. The Clubs have partnered to purchase the Heggerty Curriculums for the Schools, and this will be used in conjunction with the Jolly Phonic program to aid the kindergarten students in letter sound development.
The training materials were presented on October 8, 2022. The Teachers were trained virtually by the Reading Specialist on October 12&13.
Principal Christian believes “A project like this is exactly what Green Bay Primary needs, we will accept whatever help we can get in the area of reading and literacy.”
President Nircree “This project is a gentle giant; its impact is far reaching. Green Bay Primary is our pilot school, once the assessments proves that it is working, we plan to approach the Villa and Golden Grove primary schools. We will not stop until we have assisted every Government primary school in the nation of Antigua & Barbuda”

Le Rotary Club d'Antigua Sundown, en collaboration avec le Rotary Club de Bethlehem Morning Star à Bethlehem en Pennsylvanie, a permis à un spécialiste de la lecture, le Dr Matz, de visiter et de faire des évaluations préliminaires dans trois écoles primaires d'Antigua.
Le Dr Matz a identifié des faiblesses dans le développement des phonèmes et serait prêt à former les professeurs de lecture et de maternelle. Les clubs se sont associés pour acheter, pour les écoles, le programme Heggerty qui sera utilisé conjointement avec le programme Jolly Phonic afin d’aider les élèves de maternelle à développer les sons des lettres.
Le matériel de formation a été présenté le 8 octobre 2022. Les enseignants ont été formés virtuellement, les 12 et 13 octobre, par le spécialiste en lecture.
Principal Christian estime qu'"un projet comme celui-ci est exactement ce dont Green Bay Primary a besoin, nous accepterons toute aide que nous pourrons obtenir dans le domaine de la lecture et de l'alphabétisation."

L'école primaire de Green Bay est notre école pilote, une fois que les évaluations auront prouvé qu'elle fonctionne, nous prévoyons d'approcher les écoles primaires de Villa et Golden Grove. Nous ne nous arrêterons pas tant que nous n'aurons pas aidé toutes les écoles primaires publiques de la nation d'Antigue et Barbuda".
