Public Image and strengthening Rotary's brand is a significant priority in our organization where the clear and powerful message that all members of the Rotary family should acknowledge, understand and put into practice is that we are all responsible for Public Image in Rotary – whether as individual Rotarians and Rotaractors, or as clubs and districts.
Therefore, as Rotary public image advocates, it is every member's responsibility to help others understand who we are as an organization and how we make a difference in our communities and the world over – publicizing your own club’s efforts and sharing the impact you make helps attract members, volunteers, and donors.
Ways your club can prioritize public image
- Appoint a public image chair to coordinate the sharing of your club’s stories with your community.
- Set goals to enhance your club’s public image in Rotary Club Central, where you can conveniently record club goals and track progress.
- Watch the “Getting Started with the Brand Center” video to get an overview of the tools available to help you tell your club’s stories.
- Use the People of Action messaging and materials in the Brand Center to build awareness and understanding of Rotary and the difference your club makes.
Leverage Your Events
Events are excellent ways to promote Rotary in your community and inspire others to get involved. On the Brand Center’s “Our Brand” page, you’ll find more than a dozen tips on how to plan a successful event, including the type of event you might host depending on your goals. Once you’ve settled on your event, you’ll find abundant guidance to help make your program a success. The “Events” page contains information on developing promotion and marketing plans, creating logos, using PowerPoint templates, engaging local media, and following Rotary Code of Policies for naming events. Ensure your event’s success by incorporating recommendations found under “13 steps to planning a successful event.”
Rotary Learning Center
“Promoting Rotary on Social Media” is a new Learning Center course that focuses on using social media platforms and creating posts that resonate with members, potential members, partner organizations and possible donors. This course will instruct you on creating a social media plan, choosing the right platform, and planning and creating content. Social media is a powerful tool for promoting Rotary and your club; take this course to learn how to make it work for you and your club.
Listen and Share: Rotary Voices Podcast
Club websites, social media posts, and ads are all great ways to share with your community the impactful work that Rotary clubs and members do. Now there’s another way to expand Rotary’s reach: The Rotary Voices Podcast. The podcast offers audio versions of stories from Rotary magazine, as well as bonus interviews, and is our newest channel to spread the word about Rotary. “The Trailblazers” podcast, for instance, features U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth, who happens to be a former Rotary International employee, and Rotary International President Jennifer Jones. The pair discuss lessons in leadership, the necessity of diversity, and other subjects. Listen to the podcasts yourself and then share links to them on your club’s social media channels and other communications. The Rotary podcasts are available at on.rotary.org/podcast or wherever you get your podcasts.
Champions of Inclusion Event
You may have watched the 10 June premiere broadcast of Rotary’s People of Action: Champions of Inclusion event. This celebration honored six champions of inclusion whose work amplifies the power of marginalized populations and fosters a sense of belonging and respect for all people. It was hosted by Rotary and the Desmond & Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation on 4 April in Cape Town, South Africa.
This event highlights the scope and breadth of the work Rotary members do. For those unfamiliar with Rotary, the broadcast increases our visibility and provides awareness that we’re people of action.
Watch and share this special broadcast, which is available on demand, with Rotary members and others who value diversity, equity, and inclusion. Perhaps it will inspire your club to find your community’s champions of inclusion and help broaden Rotary’s reach.
What's your story?
