To All Zone 33 & 34 Rotarians Registered for the 2017 Convention!

WE ARE IN NEED OF YOUR HELP.

We currently have approximately 800 volunteers and we need 1200 to staff the events and transportation properly.

I have received questions from several groups and I hope they are all answered as follows:

  1. Can we sign up as a group? The answer is yes, and the process requires every Rotarian to sign up individually with their Club Name. In the Group field enter the same Club Name again. Be sure you have all chosen either events or transportation as the activity. There will be no groups assigned to hotels, only individuals. All activities and extra events at the Convention Center should be selected as Events. We will try our best to honor your selections but we cannot guarantee them.
  2. Will parking be paid for if we have to park at another site? The answer is yes. You will be paid up to $10.00 for parking on the date of your event. This should be adequate for any airport or convention center sites. Also, if the activity requires any local traveling, you will be provided with MARTA passes or will be on the buses going to and from the event.
  3. Are we required to travel with a group of Rotarians if an event is off-site (away from the convention center)? The answer may be yes. If it is, you will be provided access to the event.
You are the face of Southern Hospitality that will be the memory that most Rotarians will share when they return home.

WE NEED YOU TO VOLUNTEER. If you have any special requests, send them to me and I will address them. The 2017 100th Anniversary of our Rotary Foundation will be one of the greatest experiences you will ever have in your Rotary lifetime. This is your time to see and understand what you have accomplished while experiencing the friendship of tens of thousands of Rotarians from around the world. There are currently over 32,000 Rotarians registered and another 9,000 waiting for visa clearances. The Host Organizing Committee (HOC) is dedicated to delivering the best of Rotary and the best fun in Rotary, but...

WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!

There are almost 6,500 Zone 33 and 34 Rotarians registered for the Convention, and only approximately 10% of you have signed up to be volunteers at the convention. The host areas usually have up to 25% of their registered Rotarians signed up as volunteers. The success of the convention will be determined by many factors. One of the most important will be the volunteer support. The volunteer effort is designed to make sure that Rotarians from all over the world have an enjoyable experience during their stay in Atlanta. As such, the volunteers have several responsibilities.

These are...
  1. Welcome traveling Rotarians at the airport. Greet them with true SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY.
  2. Direct them to the luggage areas and then to the taxis or MARTA areas.
  3. Support the House of Friendship as greeters.
  4. Provide Rotary visibility and ticket taking at HOC events.
  5. Staff the HOC ticket booth (HOC events).
Volunteers are expected to serve one four to five hour commitment. You can serve more if you choose to do so. Also, some group leaders will have six hour sessions to ensure a smooth transition between volunteer groups. Most of these commitments will not interfere with any Convention plenary sessions. Each volunteer will be provided with a commemorative vest and hat, and a special volunteer pin.. You will also receive a training manual during the latter part of April. You will have access to on-line training that will be available to you based upon your volunteer assignment. In order to volunteer you must take the following steps:
IT IS PAINLESS AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!! If you have any problems signing up, please send me an email describing the issue.

Later this week, we will be sending an email to all volunteers that are listed on our website. If you received this email, and do  not receive the volunteer email that is entitled CURRENT VOLUNTEERS later this week it means we do not have you registered as a volunteer and if you want to be a volunteer please get on and register. We may have lost some early volunteer records.

Hope you have had a happy and healthy Holiday Season and I look forward to seeing the support from all of you.
