On September 21st the formal signing took place of the agreement between the Rotary Club of Paramaribo Residence and the A.L. Waaldijkcollege for the execution of the I-Syi Girls Empowerment Project.
I-Syi means ‘Did you see’ in the Surinamese language
At least 45 girls will be trained to use a sewing machine and to manufacture environmental-friendly and reusable cotton bags (and in a later stage other items) with cultural print and the I-Syi brand name.
The bags will be sold with the assistance of RCPR and the sales proceeds will flow to the participating girls and will enable them to buy their own sewing machine. With this project RCPR aims to empower disadvantaged girls to be self-reliant by providing the means: training, material and 40 sewing machines donated to the A.L. Waaldijkcollege.
The participants will also be trained in basic entrepreneurship.
The sewing machines will be used to train more women after the initial group of 45.
The agreement was signed by the President of RCPR, Agnes Moensi-Sokowikromo and by the Chair of the Board of the A.L.Waaldijkcollege, Denise Kort.
The Waaldijkcollege is a domestic school incorporated as a Foundation and provides vocational - junior high level - sewing & fashion creation education and more.
Projet d'Autonomisation des Filles I-Syi
Le 21 septembre a eu lieu la signature officielle de l'accord entre le Rotary Club de Paramaribo Residence (RCPR) et le collège A.L. Waaldijk pour l'exécution du projet I-Syi Girls Empowerment.
I-Syi signifie "As-tu vu" en surinamais.
Au moins 45 filles seront formées à l'utilisation d'une machine à coudre et à la fabrication de sacs en coton réutilisables et respectueux de l'environnement (et, dans un second temps, d'autres articles) avec un imprimé culturel et la marque I-Syi.
Les sacs seront vendus avec l'aide de RCPR et le produit des ventes sera reversé aux filles y participant, ce qui leur permettra d'acheter leur propre machine à coudre. Avec ce projet, le RCPR vise à donner aux filles défavorisées les moyens d'être autonomes en leur fournissant les conditions nécessaires : formation, matériel et 40 machines à coudre données au collège A.L. Waaldijk.
Les participantes seront également formées aux notions de base de l'entrepreneuriat.
Les machines à coudre seront utilisées pour former d'autres femmes après le groupe initial de 45 personnes.
L'accord a été signé par la Présidente du RCPR, Agnes Moensi-Sokowikromo, et par la Présidente du Conseil d'Administration du collège A. L.Waaldijk, Denise Kort.
