DESCRIPTION:\n\nSave The Date\n\nThe Healthy Caribbean Coalition\, in partn
ership with Rotary District 7030 and the Caribbean Association of Nutritio
nists and Dieticians\, is pleased to announce a joint special webinar with
in the COVID-19 and NCDs in the Caribbean series\, Transforming the Way We
Eat&rsquo\;: The Relationship between Agriculture\, Food and Nutrition an
d NCDs. This webinar will focus on the value of investing strategically in
agricultural practices and eating what we grow to address food insecurity
. Key experts will expand on how individual and community-level strategies
can be used to practically and sustainably improve health outcomes by imp
roving access to healthy local foods as part of a build-back-better respon
se to the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.\n\nThe objective of this webinar i
s to explore agriculture&rsquo\;s practical role in addressing food securi
ty\, improving nutrition and health-related outcomes\, especially for thos
e living with chronic non-communicable diseases.\n\nCOVID-19 has highlight
ed the NCD pandemic in our region where 4 out of 10 adults are living this
group of diseases. Relatedly\, 1 in every 3 children and at least 50% of
all adults are overweight or obese and some countries report adult overwei
ght and obesity rates as high as 70%. These diet-related illnesses are lin
ked to the overconsumption of foods that are energy dense\, nutrient poor\
, processed and ultra-processed high in fats\, salt and sugars\; many of t
hese foods are often imported. In a region where many countries import mor
e than 90% of what they consume\, it is critical that efforts are made to
address the issue of food insecurity.\n\nThe panellists will discuss how i
nnovative individual and community based agricultural practices\, understa
nding the concept of eating what we grow\, and increased investment in agr
icultural support and young &lsquo\;agripreneurs\,&rsquo\;\, can help to b
uild a region that feeds itself sustainably and contributes to improved he
 alth outcomes.\n\nKEY THEMES\n\nThrough a presentation and a guided discus
sion\, panellists will explore the following key themes over the course of
the webinar:\n\n \n\nAgriculture \n\n\n	The role of agriculture in securi
ng a healthy food environment \n	The role of youth in strengthening the ag
riculture sector \n	Strategies that can be employed at the individual\, i
nstitutional and country-wide level to strengthen and support the agricult
ure sector \n\n\nFood\n\n\n	The impact of increased access to healthy food
s and how this can improve health outcomes\n	Strategies to improve the con
 sumption of local\, fresh foods\n\n\nModerators \n\nMs. Marcellia Henry \n
