Public relations efforts are vital to Rotary’s continued growth and service. Creating a positive image for Rotary is the responsibility of every Rotarian, both locally and globally. Effective PR campaigns build positive, strong relationships with their audiences. But promoting Rotary’s work in the best possible way and sharing your stories effectively with the public and the media are not easy tasks. The Club Public Relations (aka Public Image) Committee develops and implements plans to provide the public with information about Rotary and to promote the club’s service projects and activities. Having strong public relations ensures that communities around the world know that Rotary is a credible organization that meets real needs. When a Rotary club has a positive public image, current members are motivated to be active and prospective members are eager to join.

Some of the responsibilities of the Club Public Relations Committee include:
  • Develop committee goals to achieve the club's public relations goals for the coming year.
  • Familiarize yourself with available RI PR resources
  • Promote Rotary and your Rotary club in your community.
  • Create awareness of club activities among club members, media, and the general public
  • Work with Rotarians in your club to maximize public relations efforts.
  • Understand the components of public relations that will help you promote Rotary to the community.
  • Know Rotary's key messages and be able to use them when speaking in public.
  • Enhance club projects and activities to make them more appealing to the media, existing and potential project partners and the public
  • Help to create a public image conducive to membership development
  • Assigning a liaison to each of the standing club committees so as to enhance your public outreach capabilities and ensure your committee is up-to-date on all club activities.
  • Conduct any other activities associated with the effective operation of the club.
This section of the website is designed to help clubs promote projects and activities and increase public awareness about your Club and Rotary in general. It includes best practices, documents, manuals and how-to instructions, as well as, sample promotional and media-related materials. Every Club, and, in particular, Club PR chairs, should use this section as a resource and to additionally engage in club and district public image events and activities.

AN IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT BRANDING AND PUBLIC IMAGE:
When promoting your event or activity, please keep in mind that Rotary International embarked on a multi-year initiative of unprecedented scale to strengthen our image. All clubs need to do their part in protecting and promoting the Rotary "brand," which includes proper and consistent use of the Rotary logo, fonts, colors, and imagery. The goal is to create a cohesive image across all of our communications and promotional materials. An entire manual is devoted to the subject. Every Club Officer, and in particular, Club PR Chairs, should have a copy of this manual (2015 Tell Rotary's Story: Voice And Visual Identity Guidelines For Rotarians) and follow Rotary's guidelines for proper use of colors, fonts, and logos on all promotional materials that you produce. There's also a quick-start summary of the basics provided by Rotary International via the 2015 Identity At A Glance document.

Promoting Rotary can be as simple as wearing your Rotary pin or as elaborate as organizing an integrated marketing campaign. By increasing the public's understanding of your Club's activities, projects and goals, as well as that of Rotary as a whole, we're strengthening our ability to make an impact in communities around the world. As a side benefit, the publicity you generate may help you attract both new members to your club, as well as, new sources of funding!
