Interact Environmental Project – Green Spaces & Happy Places
 
In an attempt to increase understanding of, and awareness towards, environmental sustainability, the District Environment and Interact committees have launched an Interact Green Space Competition, to run from now until the end of the 2022-2023 Rotary year. The primary objective of the initiative is to educate the younger generation on environmental issues, and nurture them into sustainability pioneers in their communities. More specifically, the project seeks to:
 
  • Promote environmental sustainability concepts among school communities
  • Nurture critical and creative thinking and encourage Interactors to express their ideas on environmental concepts
  • Transfer knowledge on environmental sustainability to students and teachers
  • Induce participants’ behavioural changes towards green lifestyles and spread these ideas to families, peers and other community members
 
The competition is open to Interact clubs across the District. To participate, clubs should conceptualise and cultivate a space within their school or community that not only looks visually appealing, but also benefits the environment in some way. This may include the recycling of materials to use as pots, planters or seating, avoiding the use of chemical pesticides, capturing and reusing water, enhancing biodiversity by attracting and protecting wildlife such as insects or birds, or simply growing food. There are no limits on the size or location of the green space.
 
Interested clubs should register using the link below by the 15th of November 2022.
 
Once registered, clubs have up to four weeks to put together a plan for their green space, which should be submitted by December 15th 2023, outlining the location of the space, how it will be developed, and maintained over time, to benefit the environment, and how all members of the group will be involved.
 
On the return to school, after the Christmas break, participating clubs will then have approximately five months to create their green space.
 
By no later than May 31st 2023,  participating clubs will be required to submit a final report, which includes a project summary detailing the steps that were taken to develop the green space, and the results. The report should also include photos and videos that document the creation of the space throughout the life of the project, and how group members have contributed.
 
The Committee will host a webinar on Monday June 5th 2023 (World Environment Day), for participants to showcase their spaces to the rest of the District. Once the presentations are complete, the Committee will then present an EnviroClub Award to each participating club, while the judges assign a score to each team. The results will be announced at the end of the webinar, and the top three clubs will receive prizes of US$500, US$300 and US$200, to go towards the further enhancement or ongoing maintenance of their green spaces.

Projet Environnemental Interact – Les Espaces Verts
 
Dans le but d'accroître la compréhension et la sensibilisation à la durabilité environnementale, les commissions Environnement et Interact du district ont lancé un concours d'espaces verts Interact, qui se déroulera d'ici la fin de l'année rotarienne 2022-2023. L'objectif principal de cette initiative est d'éduquer la jeune génération sur les questions environnementales et d'en faire des pionniers de la durabilité dans leurs communautés. Plus précisément, le projet vise à :
 
• Promouvoir les concepts de durabilité environnementale parmi les communautés scolaires
• Nourrir la pensée critique et créative et encourager les Interacteurs à exprimer leurs idées sur les concepts environnementaux
• Transférer les connaissances sur la durabilité environnementale aux élèves et aux enseignants
• Induire des changements de comportement des participants vers des modes de vie écologiques et diffuser ces idées aux familles, aux pairs et aux autres membres de la communauté
 
Le concours est ouvert aux clubs Interact du district. Pour participer, les clubs doivent conceptualiser et cultiver un espace au sein de leur école ou de leur communauté qui soit non seulement esthétique, mais profite également à l'environnement d'une manière ou d'une autre. Cela peut inclure le recyclage de matériaux à utiliser comme pots, jardinières ou sièges, en évitant l'utilisation de pesticides chimiques, en captant et en réutilisant l'eau, en améliorant la biodiversité en attirant et en protégeant la faune comme les insectes ou les oiseaux, ou simplement en cultivant de la nourriture. Il n'y a pas de limites sur la taille ou l'emplacement de l'espace vert.
 
Les clubs intéressés doivent s'inscrire en utilisant le lien ci-dessous avant le 15 novembre 2022.
 
Une fois inscrits, les clubs ont jusqu'à quatre semaines pour planifier la conception de leur espace vert. Ce plan doit être soumis avant le 15 décembre, et doit décrire l'emplacement de cet espace, comment il sera développé et entretenu au fil du temps, au profit de l'environnement, et comment tous les membres du groupe seront impliqués.
 
A la rentrée, après les vacances de Noël, les clubs participants auront alors environ cinq mois pour créer leur espace vert.
 
Au plus tard le 31 mai 2023, les clubs participants devront soumettre un rapport final, qui comprendra un résumé du projet détaillant les étapes franchies pour développer l'espace vert, et les résultats. Le rapport devra également inclure des photos et des vidéos qui documentent la création de l'espace tout au long de la vie du projet, et comment les membres du groupe ont contribué.
 
Le Comité organisera un webinaire le lundi 5 juin 2023 (Journée mondiale de l'environnement), pour que les participants présentent leurs espaces au reste du district. Une fois les présentations terminées, le comité remettra un prix EnviroClub à chaque club participant, tandis que les juges attribueront une note à chaque équipe. Les résultats seront annoncés à la fin du webinaire, et les trois meilleurs clubs recevront des prix de 500 USD, 300 USD et 200 USD, destinés à l'amélioration ou à l'entretien continu de leurs espaces verts.
