Save The Date

In December 2014, members of the Rotary Club of North Fulton joined members of the Mbabane Mbuluzi Rotary Club in Swaziland for the dedication of the Living Water Dam for use by Heart for Africa on its 2500-acre site known as Project Canaan in Swaziland (now Eswatini).

The Swaziland Minister of Agriculture, Moses Vilakati, was the keynote speaker during the dedication, which also included an address from the District Governor for District 9400, Annie Steijn, and delivery of a written message from District 6900 governor, Alicia Michael.

The project, with a total cost of $330,000, was made possible by a Global Grant from the Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of North Fulton and the Mbabane Mbuluzi clubs were the clubs that made application for and coordinated the efforts to obtain the grant and make the dam a reality.  The grant was the largest global grant ever for Rotary District 6900. The dam is massive with a capacity of over ten million gallons of water. The dam is fifty feet high, 400 feet wide, and almost 600 feet thick at the base. It is a significant resource in Project Canaan’s vision for sustainability, helping Heart for Africa irrigate additional fields and expand their farming from 15 acres to nearly 70 acres. In addition, it helps them capture and stop water during the dry season (which can last up to eight months).

This project is a successful example of how clubs from around the world can harness the power of Rotary Foundation and leverage giving for even greater impact.

Join us on November 22 at 6:00 p.m. (EDT / GMT-5) as we celebrate Foundation month to learn more about this amazing project and how to use Foundation projects like this to tell the Rotary story.

Remember...as members of the Rotary family, each and every one of us is responsible for the brand and public image of Rotary and the story of our respective club, our members and ourselves as People of Action. So this event is open to and encouarages ALL Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors to register and attend.
