Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta continues to urge members to become more involved in service projects, saying that caring for and serving others is the best way to live because it changes not only other people’s lives, but also our own.
“Rotary kindled the spark within me to look beyond myself and embrace humanity,” he said. “Service became a way of life for me and I, like many others, adopted the guiding philosophy that ‘Service is the rent I pay for the space I occupy on this earth, and I want to be a good tenant of this earth.’”
Mehta encourages all members of the Rotary family to lead by example and inspire each other to participate in projects that have measurable and sustainable impacts.
However members chooses to serve, they do so because they know their service makes a difference in the lives of others.
As a member of the Rotary family, whatever motivation you had for joining Rotary, Rotaract or Interact, it is the satisfaction you find that causes you to remain, the satisfaction of knowing that you are part of Rotary's unwavering commitment to "Service Above Self".
Below are just a few activities you can undertake throughout the year to Serve To Change Lives:
- Contribute and commit yourself to a service project and use your professional skills to help others.
- Invest in one of the 2021-2022 Presidential initiatives
- Inspire others by posting your service projects on Rotary Showcase or supporting a cause on Raise for Rotary.
- Join a Rotarian Action Group to use your technical skills to assist service projects around the world.
- Join or form a Rotary Fellowship related to your vocation or your interests.
- Emphasize integrity in your club by recognizing Rotarians for high ethical standards.
- Guide a young person to achieve his or her career aspirations and encourage others in their professional development.
- Resolve to set and complete goals for your club and members.
- Work with your district service chairs to offer your expertise as part of a district resource network. Let your chair know if you have technical expertise in one of Rotary’s seven areas of focus, project planning and implementation, community assessment, measurement and evaluation, or other key aspects of large-scale projects and grants.
