For the third consecutive year the Rotary Club of Maracas/St. Joseph (RCMSJ), in partnership with the Interact Clubs of Hillview College and St. Joseph Convent, St. Joseph, was host to an exquisite Christmas Style Gala Luncheon for the Senior Citizens of the Maracas, St. Joseph community. The event was held on Dec 10th 2016 at the Maracas Valley Community Center and was favourably supported by several Community Councils in the Valley namely the Lluengo Community Council, Acono Community Council, Maracas Valley Community Council and the La Seiva Community Council, to this end they were all equally responsible for inviting the Seniors Citizens and ensuring maximum participation and attendance to the event.

The luncheon is an initiative of the RCMSJ which aims to treat the Seniors and provide a forum where the Interactors can show their appreciation at this time of the year. The Community Services committee under the leadership of Rotarian Brent Ramroop coordinated the event which is usually held on the 2nd weekend in December, the menu items were sponsored and arranged by all participating Community Councils while the serving of meals was proudly carried out by the Rotarians and Interactors present.  The format of the event includes a hearty lunch with a variety of non-alcoholic beverages, a traditional fruit cake with ice cream and other homemade pastries which were served for dessert.

Remarkably, invited guests started arriving from as early as 11am and throughout the event they were entertained by DJ music consisting of traditional Parang, local Soca music and nostalgic Christmas Carols, this year the event welcomed the “Los Paranderos de San Jose Parang” group who rendered several items much to the enjoyment of the guests, young Interactors and Rotarians alike.

After Lunch, the Interactors once more led the dancing, this time accompanied by several guests who were encouraged by the enthusiasm and energy of the younger generation. To end off the festivities all seniors were given a hamper of groceries sponsored by the RCMSJ and handed over individually by the Interactors attending the event.

Before bidding farewell to all, President Assad of the Rotary Club of Maracas St. Joseph thanked all Guests, Interactors and Rotarians for a job well done and commended the Village Councils for their ability to keep the connection with the Seniors, while recognising their life and contribution to the development of the Maracas, St Joseph community.
